Dunn Finds Success On Mats

Sioux County’s Jesse Dunn picked up two medals on the mats over the weekend, finishing second at the Lusk Tiger Invite Friday and sixth in Gordon-Rushville Saturday.

Dunn won four straight matches in the 160-class in Lusk before losing the championship round to Emmit Houstin of North Park in a 17-0 technical fall. Dunn’s wins all came by fall, with three of the four lasting under 50 seconds. Dunn defeated Spencer Cuthrell, Wyatt Allred and Dima Haskall, all of Moorcroft, and Seven Patrick of Saratoga.

Saturday in Gordon, Dunn went 4:33 before falling to Drake Brewer of Gordon-Rushville in the fifth-place match. It was the second time the pair faced off that day, with Brewer earning a win by fall in 3:07 in the quarterfinals. Dunn picked up two wins over Mullen wrestlers Jarren Forsen and James Kessler in the consolation rounds, defeating both by fall before he lost by fall to Kadon Wenig of Valentine to drop to the fifth-place match.

Sioux County’s Colton Randall picked up his first win of the season on the mats in Lusk in round five, earning a fall over Ivan Kremers of Niobrara County in the 145 weight class. Randall suffered four defeats in the early rounds, falling to Jacob Anderson of Moorcroft in 2:39, to Sean Johnson of Niobrara County and to Marcus James of Moorcroft in 3:18. He also lost a major decision 17-4 match against Chase VanDerBoom of Newell.

Randall went 0-2 in Gordon, falling to Garden County’s Adam Hill in 1:22 and Leyton’s Dawson Juelfs in 1:30.

Three of Seth Dunn’s 170-class matches ended with injuries. Dunn lost to Silas Vannett of Saratoga due to injury and then lost in a fall in 1:53 to Douglass Campbell, also of Saratoga. He picked up an injury win over James Long of Moorcroft only to sustain an injury loss to Niobrara County’s Alijah Pavone in his final match. Seth Dunn did not compete in Gordon-Rushville for Sioux County.
