Eagles Seventh On Monday In Pueblo

Despite recording its third best round of the fall, the Chadron State College golf team was seventh of eight teams, through one round on Monday, at the Samuel Proal Invite, hosted by Colorado State University Pueblo at Pueblo Country Club.

The Eagles shot 323 on their first 18 holes, putting them nine strokes behind sixth-place Regis and four ahead of eighth-place Fort Lewis.

The host ThunderWolves were three strokes in back of the leader, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, who shot 299.

Sophomore Kenzey Kanno led the Eagles on Monday with a 77, earning a birdie and recording no more than one-over-par on any hole. She is tied for 16th.

Junior Alpine Hickstein and sophomore Kinsey Smith each carded 81 to tie for 29th. Fifty golfers competed.

The leader in the clubhouse, headed into Tuesday’s second and final round, was UCCS’s Emily Shimkus with 71 strokes.

Play resumes on Tuesday at a 9 a.m. tee time.
