Eagles Volleyball Unsuccessful Against #5 Mavericks 3-1

The Chadron State College women’s volleyball team fell against AVCA fifth-ranked Colorado Mesa one set to three, losing set one 25-22, winning the second 25-20, and losing the third and fourth 25-17 and 25-21. The Eagles are now 2-3 on the season.

Though the Eagles were defeated overall, they put up a fight against the strong Mavericks’ team, with their largest loss in a set being eight and their closest being three.

On the offense, Rylee Greiman put up the most points of anyone on her team at 13.5 (11 kills), hitting .242 for the match. Chandler Hageman was right behind her at 13 points with seven kills, while hitting at a .250 clip.

Alexia Hurtado had three service aces and Kincaid Strain had two. Strain also had 13 assists which was second only to Breshawna Kelly who had 14 on the match.

Karli Noble was instrumental on the defense with 17 digs in the four matches, again with Hurtado close behind at 13.

Each team had six services aces on Sunday, but the visitors had eight service errors, compared to the home team’s five. The Eagles also managed 14 blocks compared to their opponents’ nine.

Maddi Foutz and Sierra Hunt helped secure the Mavericks’ win over the Eagles, each with 14 points on the night and Gabrielle Vogt with 12.5.

CSC will next face the Regis University Rangers at home on Friday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Chicoine Center. The Rangers rank No. 20 in the AVCA Coaches Poll.
