South Dakota hosted its regional meets on Thursday as a final chance for some athletes to clock a fast enough time to clinch a spot at the state track meet. The top 24 in each event based on season long performance qualifies for state.
Hot Springs competed well on both the boys and girls side of the 8A regional but none of the times or distances recorded on Thursday appear to be good enough to sneak someone into the top 24 of their event.
Marcus Harkless swept the titles in the boys shot and discus while Carlie DeBoer won the high jump and Jaylen Nachtigall took the 300m hurdles.
The Edgemont girls medley relay made good use of the 7B regional by taking first with a season best time of 4:42.79, moving them on to the fringe of qualifying for state.
Final tallies for state qualifiers should be released this weekend.
