A big third quarter pushed the Edgemont boys over Crawford Tuesday in first-round Panhandle Conference action, and Hay Springs handled Sioux County to advance.
The Crawford Rams took a 23-13 lead into the half-time break, only to see it disappear in the third quarter. Edgemont outscored Crawford 18-2 that period to move ahead and capped the 40-28 victory with a 9-3 run. Edgemont will face number-one seeded Hemingford Thursday at 3:45 p.m. at Chadron State College, while the Rams will drop to the fifth-place game against Sioux County Friday at 11:45 a.m., also at CSC.
Hay Springs also advances to the semi-finals with a 58-24 win over Sioux County. Early action saw the teams playing close, but by the time the first period was over, the Hawks led 17-6. Hay Springs shut out the Warriors 19-0 in the second. A run of 11-6 for Hay Springs in the third helped keep the game out of reach, even as the Warriors outpaced the Hawks 12-6 in the final eight minutes.
Hay Springs will take on number two Morrill Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at CSC.
