The Edgemont volleyball team is one win away from the South Dakota Class B state tournament after their 5 set victory over Wall in the Class B Region 7 tournament on Thursday night.
The sets went back and forth as the Moguls prevailed 25-22, 17-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-11.
With the win, Edgemont earned the 15th seed in the SoDak 16 and will square off with #2 Warner next Tuesday at a site to be determined.
Edgemont hasn’t been to the state tournament since 2011.
Hill City and Rapid City Christian won their games at the Class A Region 8 tourney and Lakota Tech and Pine Ridge were victorious in the Class A Region 7 tournament sending all four teams to the Class A SoDak 16.
Both the Class A and B state tournaments will be held at the new Summit Arena at The Monument in Rapid City starting Thursday, November 18th.
— The second day of the Nebraska state volleyball tournament didn’t stray far from the script on Thursday as just two lower seeds were able to pull the upset.
Sixth seeded Sutton knocked off 3rd seeded Clarkson/Leigh in C2, and 7th seeded Elmwood-Murdock beat conference rival and 2nd seeded Mead in D1.
The top seeds cruised in each of the classes finalizing all of today’s semifinal matches. D1 and D2 will start the morning session. C1 and C2 will play this afternoon, and classes A and B have the nightcap.
Championships will be held on Saturday and can be seen statewide on Nebraska Public Media, formerly NET.
— Southeast won their quarterfinal game at the Wyoming 1A state tournament over Saratoga as one of a few regional teams that had a successful first day on Thursday.
Moorcroft and Sundance were winners in the 2A tournament, while Casper Kelly Walsh and Natrona will meet in the 4A semifinals.
It was a difficult day for 3A teams in the east as all four, including Newcastle, fell to the consolation bracket.
