Former Husker Shares College, National Guard Experiences With CHS Football Team

Playing as a team, and taking care of your body. That was the message delivered by former Nebraska and Minnesota Vikings running back and now Nebraska National Guard member Terrell Newby when he spoke to the Chadron High football team on Wednesday morning.

Newby, who spoke to the team for about 20 minutes, is making stops around the Panhandle this week including Crawford on Thursday, and began his day Wednesday at Gordon-Rushville.

He talked about his time at Nebraska and playing for two different head coaches in Bo Pelini and Mike Riley, from 2013 to 2016. He also shared his experience with the Minnesota Vikings, the team he signed with as an undrafted free agent after his time in Lincoln was up.

The biggest point of emphasis centered around working as a team and the ability to accomplish your goals together. Newby called on both the Freshman and Seniors and encouraged them to work as one.

Nutrition was another big aspect, Newby said. Taking care of your body and the foods you put in it help build your body the right way.

Newby, a 2,000 yard rusher during his playing days at Nebraska, is an 11B Infantryman with the 2-134th Alpha Company in Yutan, Nebraska.

As for the Cardinals themselves, this is their first week of practices leading up to their season opener on August 27th at Chase County.

Chadron High Senior Chayton Bynes faced off with Terrell Newby in a 30 yard dash ahead of practice on Wednesday morning.
