Two Northwest Nebraska athletes brought home hardware on day one the Class C and D NSAA State track championships.
Gordon-Rushville’s Mckinley Grover began the day by grabbing 5th in the Class C girls discus with a toss of 125’ 7”. It bettered her 11th place finish in the event last year.
Grover will have a chance at doubling up on Saturday as she competes in the shot put.
Paityn Homan of Crawford was another athlete that took advantage of a return trip to Omaha as she placed 8th in the Class D girls 3200m with a time of 12:49.91. The Junior was 18th last year.
Sioux County’s Skylar Edmund and Gordon-Rushville’s Jace Freeseman both qualified for the finals of their respective 400m races. Edmund put together the 5th fastest qualifying time in Class D and Freeseman clinched the automatic berth by winning his heat.
The Crawford girls 4x400m relay and both Ty Brady of Crawford and Wes Jacobs of Hay Springs in the Class D boys 1600m, should all contend for medals on Saturday.
