The Hay Springs boys had their season ended by top-seeded Mullen 67-29 on Sat in the D1-2 District final at Valentine.
The Hawks were down 7-0 just :49 into the game and never caught up. Turnovers were a big factor with 7 in the opening 5 minutes and 20 by half.
Hay Springs trailed 24-4 after the 1st quarter and 38-13 at intermission before seeing the margin grow to as many as 41 in the 2nd half.
Chaz Twarling had 14 points to lead the Hawks, who finished the season 11-9 and a game short of their first state trip since 2010.
Mullen had 4 players reach double figures, led by Clayton Moore’s team-high 23 points The 23-2 Broncos 8th straight victory brings them theis second-straight trip to state, 4th in 5 years, and 17th overall.
