Alpine Hickstein took a major leap up the leaderboard on Tuesday at the 47th Nebraska Women’s Amateur Championship at The Club at Indian Creek in Elkhorn.
After an untypical score of 90 in Monday’s 1st round, Hickstein carded a 79 on Tuesday and climbed into the top 15, with a two day score of 169, heading into Wednesday’s final round. Compared to Monday’s round in which she sank just 5 pars, Hickstein parred 10 holes and dropped a birdie on the par 5 1st.
She also stayed away from the big mistake that popped up during Monday’s round when she recorded a quadruple bogey on the par 5 16th. A double bogey on the par 4 2nd was the only blemish during her 2nd round.
Kenzy Kanno stayed consistent and shot an 86 on Tuesday to go with her Monday round of 84 to take a 170 into her final 18 on Wednesday.
Kanno took a big step forward by cleaning up the final six holes of her round. On Monday she shot a 6-over on that stretch of the course, but went just 1-over on Tuesday aided by her only birdie of the day on the par 4 7th.
Jordan Grasis made the best recovery of the day. Grasis, who started on hole #10 like both of her CSC teammates, shot a 10 on the par 4 opening hole. She went 13-over the rest of the way to card a 91 for a two day score of 179.
Grasis cleaned things up just ahead of the turn with a pair of pars on 17 and 18, and then finished with a charge shooting par on four of her last six holes.
Hickstein sits all alone in 13th, six strokes back of 10th place. Kanno is a spot down, tied for 14th. Grasis is 7 strokes back of the top 15.
Tee times for Wednesday have not yet been posted.
