Chadron scored forty two points in the paint and limited possibly the best player in the panhandle, Mitchell’s Austin Thyne, to just seven points through the first three quarters in a 63-58 win over the Tigers on Saturday night.

The Cardinals got contributions from six players in the opening quarter to build a 21-12 lead.

Mitchell clawed back in the second quarter behind eight points from guard Francisco Barrios to bring the score to 33-29 at the half in favor of Chadron.

On Chadron’s end of the court, Gaurav Chima had ten first half points, he finished the night with twelve. He scored twenty-eight in the first meeting between the two teams back in December.

Chadron built the lead out to seven, at 49-42, in the third quarter as Justus Alcorn jumped in and scored seven of his sixteen points in the frame.

Xander Provance, who led Chadron with a career high seventeen points, took over the fourth quarter with seven of his own points, and several timely buckets. Late free throws from Michael Sorenson and Dawson Dunbar sealed the win.

Chadron will carry a 7-4 record in to Tuesday’s game with Hemingford at the Bird Cage.
