Chadron’s Burke Commits To Play Volleyball At UNOH

Chadron High Senior Anika Burke committed on Thursday to play volleyball collegiately at the University of Northwestern Ohio, an NAIA school in Lima, Ohio.

Burke led the Lady Cardinals in kills and blocks last season and was named first team all-Western Conference at the conclusion of a 19-13 campaign.

In an interview by phone on Thursday, Burke spoke about how she came to choose UNOH, “I met a girl when I went on a trip to Australia and played on a team with her. She is from Florida and is now a Freshman on the team. We started talking and I ended up liking it alot. Not only the volleyball program but the school. I also like the coaches alot.”

Burke also earned all-state honorable mention from both the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star during the 2020 season.

She helped lead Chadron to the state volleyball tournament in 2019, and a district runner-up finish in 2018.

On playing at the college level, Burke said, “It has been a goal of mine for a long time to play at the next level, I am really excited to see what I can do and am grateful for the opportunity.”

Northwestern Ohio went 23-12 in 2019 before having this most recent season postponed due to COVID-19.
