Sidney Escapes Chadron 61-58

Chadron’s Gaurav Chima missed a potential game tying three at the buzzer as Sidney held off the Cardinals 61-58 on Friday night.

Chadron kept the margin within single digits through the first half as the Red Raiders held a 34-28 halftime lead.

Sidney outscored Chadron 12-6 to start the 3rd quarter to jump out by 14 at 48-34, but the Red Birds finished the period on an 8-0 run to bring the deficit to six heading to the final quarter.

Trailing 59-51 with 31.9 seconds left in the ball game Chadron scored seven points in a 22-second span to pull within two at 60-58, but Sidney hit a free throw before the Cardinals last second attempt failed.

Three players reached double figures led by Xander Provance with 15-points. Chima and Justus Alcorn finished with 13 a piece.

Chadron travels to Hot Springs on Saturday.
