High Scoring Efforts Lead Chadron To 6th Place Finish In North Platte

The Chadron High softball placed 6th at Saturday’s North Platte Tournament, falling to Cozad in the 5th place game 10-2.

The day started with a heartbreaking shootout loss to Gering 15-14. The Cardinals outhit the Bulldogs 16-9, and built a 14-5 lead heading to the bottom of the 4th before Gering exploded for 10 runs in the inning to complete the comeback.

It’s the third loss of the season to Gering, but the closest contested of the three.

The 2nd game almost had the same script against Lexington. Chadron jumped out to a 16-2 lead through 3.5 innings, but the Minutemaids put up 6 in the bottom of the 4th and 7 in the bottom of the 5th to close the gap to the final margin of 16-15.

Haylee Wild hit a two run homer in the top of the 4th and Alisyn Swinney went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple and 3 RBI’s.

Cozad was the aggressor in the 5th place game, jumping out with 8 runs through the top of the 3rd before Chadron could respond with a pair in the bottom of the 3rd. The Cards were relatively kept in check with just six hits coming from six different batters.

Cozad tacked on two in the 6th to make the final score.

Coupled with their wins over Chase County on Friday, Chadron sits at 10-10 and will get another shot at Gering on Tuesday at home with a 6:00 pm first pitch.
