Junior Nationals Rally Falls Just Short In State Tourney Opener – UPDATED Posted by Jeremy Anderson Date: July 17, 2021 5:14 pm Leave a comment 358 Views A six run bottom of the 7th inning left the Chadron FNBO Junior Nationals just a run shy of erasing a 9-2 deficit in a 9-8 defeat at the hands of Blair in the first round of the Class B American Legion Junior baseball tournament in Waverly on Saturday. Blair brought three runs across in the top of the 1st, and then scored a pair each in the 3rd, 5th, and 7th. Chadron put up single runs in the 1st and 3rd before their explosive 7th inning. Kobe Bissonette went 6 ⅔ innings on the mound for the Nats, striking out a game high 7 batters. The loss drops the Nationals into an elimination game against Central City at 11:00 am MT on Sunday. Central City dropped its opener to Pierce 6-3 after Pierce brought home 3 runs in the top of the 7th. Host Waverly blanked Arlington in the other early game 5-0 while Beatrice clubbed Broken Bow 12-5 in the late game. Sunday’s schedule begins with an elimination game between Arlington and Broken Bow at 8:00 MT, followed by Chadron-Central City. The first winner’s bracket game, Blair vs Pierce, is at 2:00, with Waverly-Beatrice having the nightcap at 5:00 MT.
