Lady Eagles Fall To 0-8 On The Road

     One bad quarter did in the Chadron State College women Saturday as they lost at the Regis Rangers 75-57 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup.

      Chadron State jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead as Samiyah Worrell landed a 3-pointer in the first 25 seconds of the game and Ashayla Powers quickly with a layup, but Regis hit a late trey to close the period up 14-11.

      The Rangers then dominated the second quarter 26-11, shooting 10-17 and sinking 5 shots from beyond the arc while the Eagles were a frigid 4-6, although they were 2-3 from 3-point range. 

     CSC offense did pick up in the second half as they matched Regis in points, but never got closer than 12 after trailing 40-22 at intermission.

      The Eagles shot just 31.0% for the (22-71), including 38.9% on 3-pointers (7-18), while the Rangers shot 44.9% overall (31-69) and 39.3% from beyond the arc (11-28). Free throws were few and far between. Regis was 2-5 and CSC 6-8 for the game. 

      Powers led the Eagles with 16 points on 6-13 shooting from the field and 4-4 from the charity stripe. She’s 53-74 from the line, 3rd in the RMAC in free throws made and 9th in percentage at 71.6%. 

       The loss drops CSC to 5-8 overall, 4-4 in the RMAC, and 0-8 away from home. They have just one game this week, at home Saturday at 4:00 against Westminster.

       The Griffins (7-4, 6-1 RMAC) beat the Eagles in Salt Lake City in their first meeting early last month.

       The CSC men, whose game with Regis was postponed by COVID, are set to return and host Westminster at 6:00.
