Lady Rams Fend Off Warriors for Tourney Title

It was another close one between the Crawford and Sioux County ladies in the title match Tuesday at the Harrison Holiday Tournament, but the Rams prevailed over the Warriors a second time to claim the championship.

The Rams staved off a late challenge by the Warriors to get a 45-40 victory. The game began and ended on a back-and-forth note, with the Rams going ahead 12-6 after eight minutes of action. Sioux County quickly erased half of that deficit early in the second quarter and tied the game at 18 mid-way through the period. Neither team scored for two minutes before the Rams inched ahead by two and then by five. Sioux County’s Britney Klein fired off a shot from behind half court that swished in but was ruled after the buzzer giving Crawford a 25-20 advantage at the break.

Crawford padded their lead in the third, going up by seven with a 12-10 run over the Warriors. Sioux County clawed their way back, however, pulling within two with just over five minutes remaining in the contest and tied it at 38 a minute later.

The teams traded one-point leads in the final minutes, and the score knotted at 40 with 1:14 left to play. Natalie Barry hit a go-ahead trey for the Rams with 42 seconds left and iced the game with two free throws in the final seconds.

Crawford went six-of-10 from the charity stripe, and Skylar Summers sank two treys for the Rams. Jasmine Dyer led Crawford’s scorers with 18 from down low, and Barry had 12 points.

The Warriors left all the points they needed to win the game on the floor, going 9-of-15 from the free throw line. Kailey Klein led the Warriors with 13 points, including two treys.

Both teams are now 6-2 on the season.
