The Sioux County Lady Warriors suffered their first loss of the season this week but added a fifth win to their results as well.
The Warriors defeated the Lusk Tigers Saturday, taking an early lead in the 53-40 victory. Sioux County went up 19-8 in the opening quarter and led by 17 at one point in the second. The Warriors hit five three pointers in the first half, including three by Kodie Rempp, and took a 36-21 advantage into the break. Lusk outscored the Warriors in the second half by two points but were never able to get closer than seven. Rempp was the only Warrior to score in double digits, putting 12 on the board.
Sioux County’s undefeated streak was snapped Thursday in Arthur County. The Wolves came from behind to clinch a 41-33 win. Sioux County raced out to a 17-5 lead in the first period but managed just two points in the second quarter for a 19-17 edge at half-time. The Warriors’ continued to falter on offense in the second half, allowing the Wolves to make 14-5 and 10-9 runs. The teams were tied at 21 in the third quarter, and Sioux County closed to within two points twice with less than four minutes remaining in the game but couldn’t sustain the momentum. Karlee Juhnke and Kailey Klein led the Warriors on the scoreboard with nine apiece, followed by Rempp with seven.
The Lady Warriors struggled at the free throw line in both games and left enough points on the floor during the Arthur County contest to change the outcome. Sioux County only hit nine of 20 from the charity stripe Saturday against Lusk and was 12 of 26 against Arthur.
