Lady Warriors Survive Wolves

The Sioux County Lady Warriors survived a late challenge from the Arthur County Wolves Thursday and hung on for a 56-49 win in a game that sent players to the line a combined 64 times.

The Warriors were 13 of 33 from the charity stripe, leaving 20 points on the floor, while Arthur County went 21-of-31.

The Warriors opened the contest with a 5-0 run before trailing 9-10 at the end of the first quarter. Sioux County assembled a 20-11 run in the second behind a six-of-seven free throw performance by Rachel Krein and three field goals by Britney Klein. Sioux County extended its advantage in the third and looked to have the game wrapped up as the Wolves struggled to get within 10. That changed in the fourth, however, as the Warriors got into foul trouble. They sent the Wolves to the line 15 times, and Arthur County capitalized on it for 11 of their 17 fourth-quarter points. On the other end, the Wolves fouled out three players and sent Sioux County to the line 12 times late in the game, but the Warriors converted on just three of them.

Klein and Krein led the Warriors with 18 and 15 points, respectively. Nine of Krein’s points came from the charity stripe, while Klein chipped in eight field field goals and two free shots. Also in double figures for the Warriors was Kailey Klein with 12.
