Lusk watched a 28-27 fourth quarter lead fade into a 47-28 loss to Southeast in the 1A 9-man Wyoming state championship on Friday night.
The teams each scored a first quarter touchdown and failed on their two point conversion attempts for a 6-6 tie.
Another pair of touchdowns in the second quarter plus a Lusk conversion gave the Tigers a 14-13 halftime lead.
Lusk running back Drake Lamp punched in a couple of third quarter touchdowns to build the 28-27 advantage before Southeast converted a pair of Lusk turnovers into points and clinched their 10th state championship in school history.
The 2A championship will be played in Torrington on Saturday. The Trailblazers will welcome Lyman to town in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Torrington has just two state championships to their name but haven’t won since 1990. Lyman has won four state titles, their most recent in 2012.
Kick off will get underway at 1:00 pm.
