Mavs Win 8 Of 10 In RMAC Wrestling Battle

The Colorado Mesa Mavericks upended the Chadron State College men’s wrestling team 38-6 on Thursday in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual action in Grand Junction.

The Mavericks won 8 of 10 weight classes, getting pins at 149, 174, and 197 pounds, to outscore the Eagles. Four of their other five wins scored bonus points.

Ethan Leake, at 141 pounds, and Mason Watt, at 285, were the winners for CSC.

Leake took his opponent down twice in the first period, got two nearfall points in the second, then reversed his opponent in the the third, in addition to a riding time point in a 9-4 decision.

Watt got an escape point in the third period, scored a takedown, and earned a riding time point in addition to an earlier penalty point for stalling. He won 5-0 for the Eagles’ other three team points.

On Friday, CSC meets Western Colorado for a dual at 6 p.m.
