It was another busy week for the local Legion baseball teams. The Seniors went just 1-2 for the week dropping two games of a doubleheader to Rapid City Post 13 on Sunday 13-3 and 6-5. The Nats did come from behind for win over Area rival Gering last Wednesday. The Gering game was hard fought throughout with Gering taking an early 1-0 lead in the second, countered by Chadron taking its own one run lead in the fourth. Things got interesting in the 6th when Gering scored four runs. The home team countered in their half scoring four runs of their own. Seth Gaswick held Gering in check in the top of the seventh to secure the win. Gaswick was the winning pitcher in relief of Noah Brown. Gaswick and Kobe Bissonette each had two hits for the Nats. The Seniors are sitting with an 11-5 record overall in 2022.

The Junior team pushed their record to 5-5 for the year posting wins over Buckley and Bridgeport and two losses to Gering this week. Tobin Landen stepped up and took the win over Bridgeport on Saturday at the Gering Juniors Tournament striking out seven and allowing just six hits. Landen, Tayven Jenkens and Broc Berry each had 2 hits to lead the Nats at the plate. In the second game of the tournament, Broc Berry went six innings allowing just one run and striking out 11 in the 6-2 win over Buckley. Alex Fisher and Kobe Bissonette each had a pair of hits in the game. After meeting Gering in a Wednesday game and losing 20-9, The Nats met up with them again in the weekend tournament falling again 5-0.

In Prep action, the Nats took on Scottsbluff losing 10-6 for their second loss of the year. They did bounce back against Sheridan County21-3 hear at home.

This week will also have a lot of baseball played by the home teams. The Juniors have the week off, but the Preps start things off here at home for a rematch with Scottsbluff at 6:30 on Tuesday. The Seniors will be on the road this week for a mid-season road trip to eastern Nebraska. They have stops at Broken Bow, Cairo (both at 6 CDT), and Omaha for a visit to the College World Series on Friday. They are looking to schedule one more game on the way back to Chadron.
