Nebraska State Basketball: Bridgeport Girls Head To First Ever State Championship Game

Bridgeport sisters Olivia and Ruthie Loomis-Goltl combined for 45 points and the Bulldogs will head to their first ever state championship game after their 69-55 win over Oakland-Craig in the semifinals of the C2 tournament on Thursday.

Olivia led the way with a game high 28 points while Ruthie chipped in 17. Brooklyn Mohrman and Natalie Keenan reached double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively.

The game was tied at 53 in the 4th quarter before Bridgeport closed out on a 16-2 run, giving the panhandle their first title game team, since Hay Springs played for the D2 championship in 2011.

The Bulldogs will face Hastings St. Cecilia, who took down defending champ Crofton 39-36 in the other C2 semifinal, on Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Game time is set for 3:00 pm MT on Nebraska Public Media.

Friday’s championship schedule will begin at 8:00 am with the boys D1 game between North Platte St. Pat’s and Loomis. The C1 girls game pits Lincoln Lutheran against North Bend Central, and Omaha Skutt and Omaha Roncalli will close out the early session with the Class B boys tilt.

The afternoon/evening trio of games will begin with Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family versus Grand Island Central Catholic. The Fremont and Lincoln Southwest girls meet in Class A and Falls City Sacred Heart and Humphrey St. Francis get the nightcap in the D2 girls contest.
