NFL Reminds Teams Are Off The Hook If Injury Occurs Off-Site

The Associated Press has obtained a memo from the NFL that reminds NFL teams that they aren’t obligated to honor contracts of players who get hurt working out on their own away from team facilities.

The memo was spurred by the torn Achilles tendon suffered by Broncos tackle Ja’Wuan James this week while working out off-site.

That injury puts his $10 million salary for 2021 in jeopardy.

NFL players from several teams including the Broncos announced last month they were boycotting voluntary offseason workouts at team facilities over COVID-19 concerns.
