Pelton Sits Top 5 After 1st Day Of Girls State Golf

Despite 40 to 45 mph wind gusts on Monday, Chadron’s Maddi Pelton shot a round of 88 to hold down the #5 spot after the first day of the Class B girls state golf meet at Monument Shadows in Gering.

Pelton shot a relatively clean round that included five pars and just two holes of double bogey or worse.

On Pelton’s Monday performance Chadron head coach CJ Bach said, “She played really well in tough wind conditions. She hit well off the tee and her putting was spot on. I’m really proud of her.”

Pelton will tee off at 10:30 on Tuesday morning.

The Panhandle dominated the individual competition during the first round, taking up eight of the top 15 spots on the leaderboard.

Elkhorn North’s Julia Karmazin has a four stroke lead over Anna Kelly of Scottsbluff, with a round of 77, to lead the individual standings.

Scottsbluff owns a 20-stroke lead over Duchesne Academy in the team race, 354-376.
