Pine Ridge Native Signed By Jets As Undrafted Free Agent

Hopes that Pine Ridge native and New Mexico O-line standout Teton Saltes would be taken in the NFL draft failed to materialize, but he was quickly snapped up afterward  by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent.

The 6’6, 322 pound Saltes, an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux tribe, updated his Twitter bio and retweeted several Jets fan accounts while his mother and aunt congratulated him on Facebook.

Saltes left Pine Ridge in middle school when his then-single mother got into medical school and moved with her two sons to Arizona, then to Albuquerque, NM, after med school

He kept coming back home to Pine Ridge to train throughout his college career and says he wants to continue giving back to his community, serving as an example for the younger native generation.
