Potter-Dix Sweeps Sioux County

The Sioux County Lady Warriors suffered their first defeat of the new season Friday to the Potter-Dix Coyotes in a three-set sweep.

Potter-Dix handled Sioux County in sets of 25-22, 25-8, 25-22. The first set was a back-and forth affair with ties at seven points and several lead changes. Sioux County led early with a 3-2 margin, but the Coyotes took a 4-3 lead on a kill after two hitting errors by the Warriors. Sioux County capitalized on Coyote errors and took the lead once more at 8-7, which they extended to 16-11.

A Coyote kill and an ace serve put Potter-Dix within striking distance, and a missed serve by the Warriors, along with two reception errors handed the lead back to the Coyotes at 18-17. The Coyotes blocked the Warriors Beth Krein and hammered out three kills to make it 23-18. A Potter-Dix hitting error and a rotation mistake gave the Warriors a chance to close the margin, but the Coyotes took the first set on a Warrior missed serve.

Potter-Dix led the entirety of the second set, jumping out early with a kill and an ace serve. The Warriors struggled to find any momentum, with just two kills in the set by Krein and Tamika Eastman. Britney Klein added a free ball ace.

Sioux County opened with a 3-1 lead in the final set but after taking a 4-3 lead, the Coyotes never let go of it again. The Warriors challenged Potter-Dix late, overcoming an eight-point deficit on a string of hitting errors by the Coyotes. Eastman and Kailey Klein added late kills for the Warriors to close out the loss.
