Regional Track Last Chance For South Dakota Athletes

South Dakota will host its regional meets today as athletes get one final chance to earn their way to their respective state meets.

South Dakota changed its qualifying standards for this season due to COVID and will take the top 24 performers in each event, relay or individual, from across the state.  Those qualifying times or marks could be met at any sanctioned meet throughout the season.

Several area athletes are already in good position to qualify.

Hot Springs’ Jaylen Nachtigall is safely in line to qualify for the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles.  Carlie DeBoer should be in, in the high jump. The same goes for the Lady Bison 800m relay, 1600m relay, and medley relay.

The Hot Springs boys medley relay along with shot and discus thrower Marcus Harkless are both in.

Bridget Neville and Morgan Peterson of Edgemont will advance in their events, the 400m and 300m hurdles, respectively.

Caleb Simons is the only Mogul boy lined up in a pair of events, the long jump and 400m.

There are a handful of others that, with good times or marks today, could still qualify.

Hot Springs is a part of the 8A regional meet taking place at Black Hills State.

The 7B regional meet which includes Edgemont and Oelrichs, will be held in Wall.
