The host Regis University Rangers swiped their first two of four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference softball games on Saturday, downing Chadron State College 10-1 and 1-0 in Denver.

Regis brought out the bats early in the noon game, putting one single, three doubles, and a triple in play in the bottom of the first to go up 4-0.

After the Rangers tacked on one run in the third, CSC went to the sixth down 5-0. The Eagles were able to swipe one back in the top of the inning, when J’Lyssa Martinez got on with a double and two players walked to load the bases. Martinez came in on the next at-bat when Allie Mason was hit by a pitch.

Regis was hot again in the bottom of the inning. Its first three batters singled in order, bringing in one run. RU’s Katherine Raper then cracked out a two-RBI double, and Rachel Williams, who batted 3-for-3 in the game, hit a walkoff, two-run homer to end the game by run rule.

Rangers pitcher Kylie Harpman, who is the RMAC Pitcher of the Week for three weeks running, jumped to 9-5, pitching all six innings. CSC’s Kenzi Garner fell to 3-5 after giving up the five hits in the first.

CSC didn’t get its first base hit of the afternoon game until the sixth inning.

Tia Kohl pitched well, however, giving up only four hits and striking out eight Rangers batters. The only run credited to Kohl came after back-to-back Regis singles in the third when a batter grounded out and a runner scored on the throw.

Regis’s Abby Covington sat down the order for the Eagles in four of the first five innings, with only a fielding error by the Rangers preventing her from going five perfect innings.

Aliyah Rothstein and Micah Stouffer broke up the no-hitter with a single each in the sixth and seventh innings.

Covington improved to 2-1, while Kohl fell to 0-12.

The Eagles now have an overall mark of 4-22 (3-11 RMAC) while Regis is 18-11 (12-2 RMAC).

Another doubleheader is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday.
