Rischling, Jones Move Up On Final Day Of State Golf

Chadron’s Maralee Rischling and Gracie Jones both took strokes off on a rain filled final day of the Class B girls state golf meet in Scottsbluff on Tuesday. Play was set to begin at 8:30 on Tuesday morning but was pushed back two hours by severe weather and then delayed again around 2:30 due to more weather moving through the area.

Rischling made a 4-stroke improvement from Monday to Tuesday, shooting a round of 99. Added with her first round score of 103 she tallied a 202 to sit all alone in 31st. She performed best on the par 5’s, going 3-over on the 4 holes combined.

Jones took an even bigger leap, shedding 6-strokes off from day one to day two. Only going bogey or better on 5 holes on Monday, she accomplished that feat 8 times on Tuesday, including bogeys on her last four holes to finish her round with a 111. Her two-day score of 227 was good enough for 59th.

Sisters Julia and Emily Karmazin of Elkhorn South were 1st and 2nd with rounds of 147 and 153 respectively. Scottsbluff’s Anna Kelley and Gering’s Emily Krzyzanowski tied for 3rd with matching 154’s.

Elkhorn South held off two time defending state champion Scottsbluff for the team title 677 to 696. The Bearcats actually had the best 9-hole team round of the meet with Tuesday’s 334, a stroke better than the 335 from Elkhorn South on Monday.
