Chadron’s Maralee Rischling shot a 103 and Gracie Jones fired a 117 at Monday’s opening round of the Class B girls state golf meet at Scottsbluff Country Club.
Rischling’s best stretch came on the back 9 where she shot par on the par 5 11th and par 4 16th. She only had three holes through her round that were triple bogey or worse to sit 8-strokes back out of medal contention.
Jones had just one par on her scorecard, but just like Rischling, cleaned up her back 9, taking four strokes off of the 2nd 9 compared to the first 9.
The Elkhorn South duo of Emily and Julia Karmazin are 1st and 2nd with rounds of 72 and 75. The Wolves are also in control in the team standings, 24 strokes ahead of Omaha Duchesne with Scottsbluff three back of Duchesne.
Tuesday’s round will have an 8:30 am shotgun start with severe weather expected by Tuesday afternoon.
