Sanderson 2-1 in wrestling return

After taking a year off last season to try basketball, senior Sioux County Warrior Mike Sanderson returned to wrestling this year and opened with a 2-1 performance at the Hemingford tournament Thursday.

Sanderson earned two wins by fall over a pair of Hay Springs wrestlers in the opening rounds of the 182 weight class. He defeated Jordyn Anderson in 46 seconds, and got past Hunter McDonald in 1:44. Kolby Welling of Crawford earned a win by fall over Sanderson in round three in 3:01, giving Sanderson his only loss on the day.

Jesse Dunn was 1-1 at 160, earning a win by fall in 1:19 over Leyton’s Chance Carter in round two but losing by a fall in 4:38 to Wyatt Reichenberg of Banner County in round one.

Freshman Seth Dunn lost all three of his matches by fall. Drew Varner of Hemingford earned the fall in 1:10 in the opening 170 weight class round, and Peyton Abbot of Leyton picked up the win by fall over Dunn in 31 seconds in round two. Justin Schwanebeck of Hyannis defeated Dunn in 1:28 in the final round.

Junior Colton Randall, wrestling for the first time this year, also went 0-3 in the 152 weight class. Brenton Abbott of Leyton earned a win by fall in the opening round in 1:44, and fellow Leyton wrestler Gabe Tretter did the same in 3:28. Ezekial Heaton of Hyannis beat Randall by fall in 1:51 in the final match.
