The Lusk Tigers pushed the Sioux County Warriors to their first four-set game this season Thursday, but the Warriors overcame a tough third set to win 3-1 and improve to 6-2 on the year.

The Warriors won the opening set 25-15, capitalizing on Tiger errors. Lusk had four missed serves, at least seven hitting errors, four net violations and five other receiving errors. Sioux County’s Skylar Edmund landed two aces during a string of nine serves, and Kailey Klein scored two kills and an ace in the set. The Warriors also had five missed serves and six hitting and receiving errors.

Sioux County sailed to a 25-4 win in the second, as the Tigers missed two serves early, were called for a lift violation and had six receiving errors and four attacking errors. Sioux County’s Beth Krein stood at the serving line 19 consecutive times in the set, earning two aces during that stretch. Klein hammered out three kills while Krein was serving, and Edmund had two. Sierra Eastman also scored a kill and a block.

The Warriors looked to put the game away as the third set began, pulling out to a 5-1 lead, but a string of attacking errors tied the contest at five. The Warriors inched ahead again but couldn’t shake the Tigers, who tied the game again at eight and nine before taking the lead and never relinquishing it. The Warriors mounted a late challenge and tied the game at 20, but Lusk prevailed 25-20. Tamika Eastman put down three kills in the set for the Warriors, and S. Eastman and Krein each added one.

While the fourth set started as a back-and-forth affair, with the teams tied seven times through set point 11, Sioux County took over with a 12-11 margin and never looked back in the 25-13 clincher. Ashley Hunter served nine times in a row, including two aces, as Edmund landed two kills to make it 19-12. Edmund finished the set with four kills and an ace serve. Klein added two kills, Krein had a block and a kill and T. Eastman had one kill.

The win over the Tigers was the Warriors’ third victory of the week, as they defeated Morrill and Minatare Sept. 14 to win the Morrill Triangular.

The Warriors defeated Morrill in sets of 25-10, 25-11. T. Eastman led the attacking game with eight kills on 10 attacks, while Klein added four kills on 10 tries and Edmund contributed three kills on five attacks. S. Eastman was two of four in her attacking game. Klein stung the Lions with 10 ace serves in 18 attempts, and Britney Klein earned 18 assists.

Morrill, meanwhile, had just eight kills as a team and no ace serves.

Against Minatare, Sioux County opened with a 25-15 win, followed by a 24-26 loss. They earned the victory with a 25-14 showing in the third set. The Warriors landed 35 kills in the three sets off of 126 attacks. T. Eastman hammered out 14 kills on 39 attempts, and Edmund added six. Krein and B. Klein each contributed five, and K.
