The Sioux County and Hemingford girls will advance to the next round in the Panhandle Conference Tournament after early action Monday.
Hemingford downed Hay Springs 61-30 and will face the number one seeded Crawford Rams Thursday at 2 p.m. at Chadron State College. The Bobcats controlled the contest against the Hawks from the outset, going up 16-8 in the first quarter and leading by 17 at half-time. Hemingford outpaced Hay Springs 28-14 in the second half to cruise to the win.
Sioux County will take on number two Edgemont Thursday at 5:30 p.m., also at CSC, after defeating Morrill 58-41. Sioux County held Morrill to single digits in the final two quarters after a hotly contested first half. The Warriors opened with a 7-0 run only to see the Lions storm back to take an 11-10 lead. After a tie at 14, Sioux County edged out Morrill 18-15 in the first quarter. The teams were never more than a few points apart for much of the second, until the Warriors went on a run in the final two minutes of the first half.
With a 10-point advantage to start the second half, Sioux County pulled away in the third in part from a six-for-six showing from the free throw line. The Warriors capped the game with an 11-9 run in the fourth.
