The NSAA state wrestling tournament begins today from the CHI Health Center in Omaha with a different look this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The tournament has been stretched to four days with classes A and D wrestling today and tomorrow, followed by classes B and C on Friday and Saturday. All four classes will be split into their own sessions by time as well.

Class D is the late session today with just one area wrestler on the docket and that’s Crawford’s Kolby Welling who will compete at 160-lbs. Welling went 3-0 at the D-4 district meet last Saturday to claim championship honors and his second straight trip to state.

Welling, 23-4, will be matched up with Kade Bottorf,28-16, of Twin Loup.

With the new setup, Welling will wrestle a second match tonight be it the quarterfinals or consolation rounds. Matches are set to start at 3:00 pm MT.

We will be providing live coverage of Welling’s matches on AM 610 KCSR,, and the KCSR Radio App.
