Surtain Takes AFC Honor In Stride, Stays Focused On Chiefs

Broncos rookie cornerback Pat Surtain II isn’t letting his early success go to his head. He was even-keeled Wednesday after being honored as the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Week.

He clearly was taking teammate Justin Simmons advice to heart to put aside the team’s big win over the Chargers last weekend to focus on ending a long losing streak to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.

General manager George Paton drafted Surtain with the Chiefs in mind. He relished the thought of countering K.C.’s offense with Surtain who has an uncommon mix of size and speed for a cornerback.
