Three CSC Pokes Post Scores In First Go-Round

Three Chadron State College rodeo contestants got off to at least acceptable starts at the College National Finals Rodeos in Casper on Sunday.

Rowdy Moon of Sargent, Neb., scored 68.5 points while riding his bareback and both Quincy Segelke of Rozet, Wyo., and Brianna Williams of Buffalo, S.D., caught their first calves in breakaway roping.

Segelke’s time was 3.2 seconds, good for a tie for 13th and 14th in the opening go-round. Williams was next in 15th place in 3.4 seconds. CSC’s third breakaway entry at nationals, Phannette Gray of Ridgeview, S.D. did not catch her calf.

The breakaway leader in the first go was Winter Williams of Southwest Oklahoma State in 1.9 seconds. Thirty-four breakaway ropers caught their calves, 22 of them in 4.3 seconds or faster. The remaining 24 missed.

Moon’s points placed him 22nd among the 30 bareback riders who made it to the eight-second whistle on Sunday. Only five others failed to get a score. The first round leader is Cole Franks of Clarendon College in Texas with 83.5 points.

There are three go-rounds to determine the dozen entries in each event in the finals on Saturday night.
