Three Golds For Chadron, Five Qualify For State Wrestling

It was a more than stellar day for Chadron at the B-4 district wrestling meet as the Cardinals captured three gold medals on their way to sending five to next weekend’s state tournament in Omaha.

Braden Underwood and Rhett Cullers got the day started off by picking up wins in the consolation semifinals and solidifying their spot at state. Underwood went on to take 3rd at 132-lbs after a close 5-3 decision over Jackson Konrad of Lexington. Cullers fell just short in his 3rd place match at 170, losing to Frankie Travino of Scottsbluff 7-4.

Davin Serres, Quinn Bailey, and Ryan Bickel were the heavy hitters as they all took first in their weight classes.

Bickel, a repeat qualifier, pinned all three of his opponents, the last in 5:17 over Chance Symons of Scottsbluff in the 285-lb championship.

Serres, a Freshman, took a 5-2 decision in the semifinals and then won the title at 138 by forfeit over Revor Reinke of Beatrice.

Bailey, also a Freshman at 145-lbs, got past Sam Grape of Boone Central with a pin in 3:07 for gold and his first trip to state.

Chadron finished 6th out of 12 teams with 98 points. Scottsbluff cruised to the top of the team race with 189 points over Beatrice who finished with 165.
