The Sioux County Warriors closed out the regular gridiron season with a shut out of the Banner County Wildcats.
The Warriors rolled up a 64-0 victory Friday at home, striking early with a rushing touchdown by Cy Hughson on the second play of the game. Hughson then recovered a Wildcat fumble to set up another Warrior touchdown minutes later. Freshman Jack Hunter kept the Warrior attack going with a touchdown to make it 20-0 mid-way through the first quarter, and Sioux County followed that with a block of the Wildcats’ punt. Mike Sanderson connected with Hughson in the end zone and then nabbed an interception to set up a final first quarter touchdown by Hughson and a 36-0 lead.
Sioux County opened the second with a first and goal situation but couldn’t make the final three yards and turned the ball over on downs. Two plays later, however, Hunter recovered a Wildcat fumble and then dashed across the goal line. Sanderson picked off the Wildcats again, setting Hughson up for a rushing TD with less than four minutes remaining in the first half. As the clock ran down, Hughson crossed into the end zone for a 58-0 advantage at the break.
With a running clock in place for the entire second half, Hughson would get the Warriors on the board with one more score near the end of the third quarter.
