Welling, Mader Win Out In Hemingford

Two of Crawford’s matmen started their 2021 wrestling season with clean sweeps Thursday at the Hemingford tournament.

Kolby Welling was perfect on the day, opening his season with a 3-0 start at 182.

Welling earned a win by fall over Hay Springs’ Hunter McDonald in 22 seconds in round one and earned a technical fall victory in 2:06 over Jordyn Anderson, also of Hay Springs in round two. Welling’s final victory came against Mike Sanderson of Sioux County in a fall at 3:01.

Ram Colton Mader also opened with a perfect start, going 2-0 against a Leyton wrestler. Mader earned a win by fall over Dawson Juelfs in 5:56 in the first round of the 145 weight class and faced off against Juelfs again in the second round, where he earned another win by fall in 3:53.

Also for Crawford at the tourney, Paden Morava went 1-3 at the tournament, earning his first season win in the third round of the 138 clss with a fall over Nathan Randolph of Hemingford in 2:45. Trenton Rushman of Leyton and Wesley Jacobs of Hay Springs earned wins over Morava in the first two rounds. Rushman earned a 9-2 decision, while Jacobs won by fall in 3:41.
