State Senator Confirmed With COVID Despite Vaccine, Able To Self-Isolate

Nebraska State Senator and media executive Mike Flood of Norfolk is self-isolating at home after contracting COVID-19.

Flood, who owns News Channel Nebraska and several radio stations, missed the final few days of the Legislature’s special session after testing positive on Monday.

Flood received the two-dose Pfizer vaccine in April and says his symptoms started with a stuffy nose on Friday as he drove home from the Capitol and grew worse over the weekend.

Flood said he lost his sense of smell and taste and noticed a blister on his finger, but never had trouble breathing and saw some of his symptoms clearing by Friday.

He credits the vaccine with keeping the symptoms mild and not requiring him to go to the hospital.

Flood served in the Legislature from 2005 to 2013 with 2 terms as Speaker, left under term limits, and elected again last year.
