Sturgis Mayor Says Riders Will Come Even If Rally Is Canceled

STURGIS, S.D. (AP) – Sturgis Mayor Mark Carstensen says planning is continuing for this summer’s motorcycle rally because the public will come regardless of the threat of the coronavirus.

The 80th Sturgis Rally is scheduled for Aug. 7-16, but the city council has said it will make an official decision in mid-June on whether to go forward with hosting the event.

Mayor Carstensen says in a Facebook video that “tourism is coming” to the Black Hills and Sturgis, whatever the city council decides.
