Funeral services for 45-year old Tara Lee Blindman-Garza of Aberdeen, SD, are Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 2:00 at the Rita Long Visitor residence in Slim Buttes, SD, with traditional Lakota services by Mr Ivis Long Visitor

Burial Services will be at the Long Visitor Family Cemetery in Slim Buttes

A one-night wake service starts Friday, May 1, 2020 at 2:00 PM, also at the Rita Long Visitor residence in Slim Buttes, SD

Tara Lee Blindman-Garza was born on March 4, 1975 at the Pine Ridge I.H.S. Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD to Alice Sun Bear and Delmar Blindman. She made her journey to the Spirit World on April 25, 2020 at the Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD.

Tara lived her traditional Lakota ways even though like so many of our Lakota people she grew up and lived off the reservation her whole life. She got along good with everyone she met and adopted them in some way or form as her extended family.

During her childhood, she lived in Blackfoot, Idaho, which she called her second home. In 1979, her father moved Tara and her siblings to Wadsworth, Pyramid Lake Reservation in Nevada and a few years later to Shurz, Walking River Reservation, NV.

In 1987, she moved with her father’s mother and her Unci back to Chadron, NE. She attended various schools and eventually finished at the Pierre Indian School in Pierre, SD in 1991.

Tara was a devoted mother and is survived by her daughters, Tusweja Win “Tootsie” Blindman, Alaquoi Blindman, Luta Win Runnels, and Anastasia Garza; son, Stephen “Hoksila” Garza, Jr.; granddaughter, Jovi Blindman; grandsons, Joaquin Blindman and Atlas Bercier;

She’s also survived by her mother Alice Sun Bear; stepmothers Billie Jean Guerrero and Josephine David; sisters Ginger and Dana Good Lance, and Tia Shot; brothers Jason Blindman, Bryant Good Lance, Wakan Waci Blindman, Wakinyan Ho Waste Blindman, and Berdell “Boy” Sho.

Also paternal unci Rita Long Visitor Holy Dance; hunka unci, Marlys Runnels; maternal aunts, Joyce Sun Bear, Hildred Sun Bear, and Phyllis Sun Bear; maternal uncle, Clarence “Sun” Sun Bear; paternal aunt, Twila Blindman; paternal uncles, Duane Blindman, Nathan Blindman, twin uncle brothers, Stuart and Stanley Blindman, and Travis Afraid of Bear; and many, many, many, close cousins, aunts, and uncles scattered throughout Indian Country.

Tara was preceded in death by her father Delmar Blindman; brother, Jorma Blindman; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Florence (Crooked Eyes) Sun Bear; maternal uncle, Carl Keith Sun Bear; paternal grandfather, Moses W. Blindman; and paternal uncle, Patrick W. Blindman.

Pallbearers will be Jason Blindman, Wakan Waci Blindman, Berdell Shot, Stephan Garza, Joaquin Blindman, and Austin Bersier.
