Tenor, Jazz Great, And “High Plains Band And Choir Festival” Coming Up At CSC

      The Chadron State College Music Department is hosting 3 special performances with guest artists over the next 4 days, and all are free.

     Up first tonight at 7:00 in the Sandoz Center Atrium is tenor Rob Psurny, Director of Choirs and Vocal Studies at Sheridan College, accompanied by former CSC staff pianist Bobby Pace, now a doctoral student at the University of Colorado.

       Tonight’s guest artist recital is the complete Franz Schubert song cycle“The Beautiful Maid of the Mill.” This is the 200th anniversary of the song cycle and Schubert’s 226th birthday was Tuesday.

       Jazz great Bobby Watson performs Monday night at 7:00 in Memorial Hall, joined by a combo of CSC professors, students, and graduates. 

        Watson is an alto saxophone virtuoso who began with legendary drummer Art Blakey’s The Jazz Messengers and went on to play with many other greats. He’s also a band leader and composer with some of his numbers on the Monday concert list.

      Monday is also the start of the High Plains Band and Choir Festival, with over 100 of the top high school vocalists and instrumentalists from around the region. It concludes with a concert Tuesday evening at 5:00 in Memorial Hall.
