Taylor Lindstrom led the Chadron State College women’s wrestling team at its national championship meet, going 1-2 at 101 pounds and coming one win short of earning All-America honors, at the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships at Adrian College in Michigan on Friday.

Lindstrom faced the No. 1 wrestler in the NCAA, Olivia Shore of Tiffin, in her first matchup. Shore pinned Lindstrom in the first period.

After a consolation first-round bye, the CSC freshman then defeated a third-place finisher at the Northwest regional, Kelly Enriquez, in her first consolation match, before getting matched against No. 3 Lizette Rodriguez in the third round of consolations. There she took a loss by tech fall, which ended her day.

The other CSC women did not fare as well, drawing several nationally ranked opponents. Kinsey Smith, at 101, Ryleigh Dye, at 136, and Kamila Montenegro, at 170, each went 0-2 in their respective brackets.

“Today was a tough day for us,” said CSC Head Women’s Wrestling Coach Alijah Jeffery. “The competition wasn’t a surprise – we knew we’d be up against the best in the country. This was the first time we’ve experienced the national championships, and there’s nothing else like it. This group is our leadership going forward, and we’ll take some time off, then go back to work.”
