Two Wyoming county sheriff’s say they won’t enforce a statewide mask mandate aimed at preventing transmission of the coronavirus.
Fremont County Sheriff Ryan Lee and Sweetwater County Sheriff John Grossnickle both declared on Thursday that enforcement of the new measure is up to individuals and not law enforcement.
That same day, about 40 unmasked protesters gathered at the Campbell County Courthouse in Gillette to demonstrate against the mask mandate.
The new state orders were imposed in response to a substantial spike in statewide coronavirus cases and 128 deaths in November, the most in a single month since the pandemic began.
