Union Reaches 4-Year Deal With Smithfield Pork Plant In Sioux Falls

Loading

The union threatening to strike the Smithfield pork processing plant in Sioux Falls says it has reached a tentative agreement with the company on a new 4-year contract. A vote by the members of the local is set for next week.

The Sioux Falls chapter of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union negotiated with Virginia-based Smithfield for two days after its members rejected a previous contract proposal and authorized a strike.

Union leaders say Smithfield dropped plans to take away a 15-minute break and that “the parties have reached an agreement on wages.”
