Local and federal resources responded to the 16N fire about 15-miles southwest of Chadron on Thursday night.
The fire was reported around 10:30 on Thursday night and took crews until just after 7:00 am on Friday morning to get the blaze contained to just a tenth of an acre.
The fire ignited in rugged terrain on forest service land but Pine Ridge District Ranger Tim Buskirk says that a mix of green fuels helped keep the spread of the fire at a minimum.
USFS crews were assisted by the Crawford Fire Department and local landowners.
