CHEYENNE, Neb. (AP) – Wyoming wildlife officials are asking residents to report dead rabbits in their yards, rural properties, and outdoor areas because a viral disease has been identified in several other states including Colorado and Utah.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is testing carcasses statewide for Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus2, which is fatal to rabbits but doesn’t pose a risk to humans.
No cases have been found in Wyoming, but department veterinarian Samantha Allen says all rabbits and hares in the state are susceptible to the disease, including domestic rabbits.
