Wade Stuart Cuny was born on February 26, 1963 in Pine Ridge, SD to Vernon J Cuny, Sr. and Olive (Garnier) Brings Him Back.  Wade made his journey to the Spirit World on August 17, 2021 in Pine Ridge, SD.

Everyone who knew Wade knew him as Beau. The third-youngest of 8 siblings, he attended the Oglala Community School (OCS) from the 1st grade to the 12th grade.

Beau then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in 29 Palms, CA.  Upon his return, he then attended Huron College where he met his longtime friend, David Michaud Sr.

Beau went to Florida with Dave and worked over the summer, then returned to his home in Oglala.  In 1990, he moved to Albuquerque, NM, where he worked as a roofer and a security guard, but eventually moved back home to South Dakota where he worked at Pine Ridge High School until 2004.

Beau was an avid hunter, pool player, and horseshoe thrower who loved being in the outdoors.  He spent a lot of his time with his uncle, Will Garnier, and his cousins, Robin Her Many Horses and Leonard Her Many Horses.

Beau was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus and lungs in October 2020. He took chemo and radiation treatments as part of his 10 month battle with the disease.

Beau was a very private person, never wanting to impose on anyone, especially his family.  As a result, it took a while before he shared with even his immediate family that he had cancer.

He did not want anything put on social media about him and his battle.  On August 16th he was taken to the Pine Ridge ER and we lost our brother on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.

Wade is survived by his siblings, Karen (Maurice) John of Steamburg, NY, Connie (Terry) Cuny-Demasters, Vernon Cuny, Jr. and Lisa Fast Wolf all of Oglala, SD, Holly (Marvin) Provost of Sharp’s Corner, SD, Paulette Price-Williams of Rapid City, SD, and Lonnie (Arturo) Cuny of San Antonio, TX; and 24 grandchildren.

Wade was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Oliver and Evelyn (Tobacco) Garnier; paternal grandparents, Adolph and Mary (Pourier) Cuny; father, Vernon Cuny, Sr.; mother, Olive (Garnier) Brings Him Back; brother, Marty “Jim” Cuny; sister, Cynthia Tobacco-Williams; uncles, Will Garnier and Oliver “Cowboy” Garnier, Jr.; aunt, Violet Her Many Horses; cousins, Louis “Jay” Her Many Horses, Luanne Her Many Horses, Alan Her Many Horses, Lana Little Finger, Joe Her Many Horses, Jon Garnier, Jordan Ten Fingers, Richard Ten Fingers III; niece, Geneva Cuny; and nephews, Joe Fast Wolf and Jesse Two Bulls.
